Maine Conservation Corps

The Maine Conservation Corps is an AmeriCorps program with a four-fold mission to: accomplish conservation projects, create conservation employment, provide conservation education, and engage conservation volunteers.

The Maine Conservation Corps is made up of two major programs the Field Team and the Environmental Educator Program. The Field Team includes 15 trail crews working on conservation projects through out Maine during the summer and fall. Environmental educators are placed at various non-profit and state agencies through out Maine and each environmental educator position is individual to the host site.

As part of the environmental educator program I participated in various Maine Conservation Corps training and service projects through out the year including First Aid, CPR, and the Maine AmeriCorps Member Conference. A highlight of both of my terms of service was the MCC Celebration of Service. This year we were very fortunate to be hosted by Bryce and Holly at Katahdin Lake Wilderness Camps.

We spent our time at Katahdin Lake enjoying Holly’s wonderful cooking, soaking in the beautiful scenery, and assisting with some trail work and wood stacking. Katahdin Lake Wilderness Camps is a truly amazing destination, and I look forward to returning someday.

I also had the opportunity to volunteer for a day of garlic mustard eradication with the environmental educators from Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge.
